The purpose of a computer network is to create a link between multiple computer systems and support communication between them.

Computers in a network can share data with each other. Various types of topologies like Bus, Star, Ring, Hierarchical, Hybrid etc. are used in computer networks.

The interconnection of computers and various hardware components through cables or wireless technology in order to allow sharing of resources and information is called a computer network.

Types of Computer Network

Computer networks are broadly classifieds in to three types. This classification is based on the distance a network covers.

1. Local Area Network ( LAN )
2. Metropolitan Area Network ( MAN )
3. Wide Area Network ( WAN )
